April 2011
(4 ½ years)
• “How high up does Heavenly Father and Jesus live? Like how high up in the sky? I think probably on the highest floating cloud.”
• “It’s SO hot! I’m melting like a piece of chocolate!” (at Sea World)
• The girls love to get socks on their hands and feet and pretend they are ice skating puppies on the tile. I got my camera out to take a picture.
Hallie: “Ahhh!!! Hurry run Peyton! Moms gonna take a picture of us. That is so embarrassing!”
Me: “I want to take your picture so you can remember this.”
Hallie: “Mom, I will always remember this moment! ALWAYS!”
• My sweet Hallie showed a new side of sassiness. I was so tired of cooking different meals for my kids and having them be so picky (yes, I know. I am such a hypocrite :)) So…one night I made a meal, made sure there was a few things I knew they would eat and put it in front of them. Of course, they both said they were not going to eat it. I told them that if they didn’t eat it for dinner, they would have to eat it for breakfast in the morning. And if they didn’t eat it for breakfast, they’d have to have it for lunch. And if they didn’t eat it for lunch…you get the point. Eventually they would get hungry enough that they’d have to eat it. Peyton decided to eat it. Hallie on the other hand…decided she was going to eat it for breakfast in hopes that I wasn’t being serious or I’d forget. I knew she would be stubborn.
Well morning came. Peyton and I had purple pancakes. Hallie…attempted to eat her dinner from the night before. Took one look at it. “Gross! I’m not eating it.” I made her sit at the table with Peyton and I and she was not allowed to be excused until breakfast was over. She tried to pretend like she didn’t care at all.
Well, before lunch time she started to get quite hungry as you can imagine. She kept saying she was just going to take a little rest in her bed. She “wasn’t tired”. Just felt like doing that. (I had explained how your body gets tired from not eating). She later decides she wants to eat it. I get it all out, warm it up. And again…”Gross! I’m not eating it.” I leave the room for a bit and see that she has hidden it behind the microwave in hopes that I wouldn’t be able to find it and she’d get to eat something else. Ha ha. Next, I see her take it out of the fridge, throw the tin foil away and when I caught her she says to me, “I took it out so it will go bad. And then you can’t make me eat it!” Hilarious! She was killing me.
Well…I didn’t buckle…she continued to try and find ways to get out of eating it. She finally said, “I’m not going to eat this ever! It is disgusting!” When she realized I was serious about it, she finally caves after I told her she knows the deal and then continue to ignore her whining. She says, “Okay! Mom! Listen! Here’s the deal! It actually is yummy but I will only eat it if you pick all the little things off it.” Ha ha. My little negotiator. I say no. She just has to eat it. Eventually…she ends up eating the whole meal (after lunch time).
It was quite the ordeal. I knew it would be. But…it has been SO great ever since. She knows that she has to try new things at meals now. And if she doesn’t, she knows what will happen. Of course, I am giving them foods they like for mealtimes, but I try at least once a week (if not more) to have a new item for them to try. It’s been really good for us. And it is for sure a lesson she learned. Because anytime Peyton says she doesn’t want to eat something, Hallie will remind her that she’ll have to eat it for breakfast and that her and I will be having purple pancakes and she will have to stay there until we eat them all. Ha ha.
• We had a really cool spider web in our backyard and had been looking at it earlier in the day. I overheard this conversation on the monitor while they were lying in their beds going to sleep at night.
Peyton: “Are piders scary?”
Hallie: “Spiders don’t hurt us. They just make spider webs.”
Peyton: “What if I run into a pider web? Will it eat me?”
Hallie: “Yes. It eats you, but it’s okay. You won’t ever run into one. So don’t worry. They’re really sticky.”
Peyton: “Stinky?”
Hallie: “Yeah!”
Peyton: “How do you get off?”
Hallie: “We can’t.”
Peyton: “Will it cut our nose off? And eat our marms (arms)?”
Hallie: “No Peyton.
Peyton: “oh. Do they just play with you?”
Hallie: “Sure.”
Peyton: “How do they get off?”
Hallie: “Don’t worry. Its okay, you won’t ever run into one. We’ll get it in the morning!” “They can’t bite!!”
Peyton: “DON’T use MY shoe! Use Mommy’s shoe!!!”
• While Hallie and Peyton were playing:
Peyton: “Oh thank you sir.”
Hallie: “I’m NOT a sir. I’m a woman. You keep calling me sir.”
• “Mom, it’s not that I’m shy. It’s just that I don’t have a lot to say! I’m not shy.” (she overheard me tell Aaron that her teacher said she was shy.)
• I went to UT with Kyler while Aaron and the girls stayed home. Hallie had asked dad why we couldn’t all go to UT. He tried to explain that it costs a lot of money to buy 4 plane tickets, etc. Awhile later she said to him. “Can we go visit Mom?” Aaron said, “No silly. We already talked about this.” Hallie: “But now we only need to buy 3 tickets.” (because I was already there.)
